Amazon Announces “Hiring Spree” With Career Fairs in 6 Major Cities and 30,000 Jobs to Fill at New HQ

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to work for global leader Amazon, now is your chance to find out. There may be a nationally slowing job market, but like most things in this economy, that doesn’t apply to mega-giant Amazon. The online retailer is looking to fill more than 30,000 jobs in a variety of departments and just announced a series of six Career Day events it will hold to fill those jobs. The company is seeking to get the word out and encourage people to come out to apply for these jobs. Qualified candidates will make it on to the next round.
These “Amazon Career Day” events will all be held simultaneously on Tuesday, September 17th. They will be held in these six cities:
• Boston, Massachusetts
• Chicago, Illinois
• Dallas, Texas
• Nashville, Tennessee
• Seattle, Washington
• Arlington, Virginia

The hiring mega-event is in response to Amazon building its second headquarters in the United States. The company’s main headquarters is located in Seattle, Washington. The new headquarters will house more than 50,000 employees. Amazon has spent around $5 billion to construct the brand-new second headquarters. It is nicknamed Amazon HQ2. It will be located in Arlington, Virginia.

Among the 30,000-job opening at Amazon, there are full-time and part-time positions available. Many of these jobs are located at the new company headquarters in Arlington. However, there are many jobs at sites all across the country. These include job openings at several of Amazon’s fulfillment centers and its data center locations.

The job openings range from entry-level positions up to corporate positions. There are even job openings for software developers, technology developers, and computer vision scientists. All of the jobs offered to pay a minimum of $15 per hour and offer benefits that Amazon says are highly competitive. Amazon wanted to stress that $15 is the bare minimum of pay for the jobs offered. A large volume of the jobs are salary pay with benefits such as health insurance and all employees are offered vacation time. All full-time employees hired at the career fair will be provided with health care that starts on day one. They also will receive up to 20 weeks of paid maternity or paternity leave. Amazon also provides 401(k) matching.

The career fair will host around 1,000 professional recruiters. These recruiters encourage people to come out, bring their resumes and meet with them regarding positions that are within their field of experience. All new company hires for the new Amazon headquarters will be included in Amazon’s new initiative. The initiative is called Upskilling 2025 and it is a large-scale skills development and training project that Amazon has invested more than $700 million in. The goal of Upskilling 2025 is to build Amazon employees’ skill level and it offers training programs that employees can apply for, with openings for up to 100,000 people that work at Amazon.

Amazon founder and CEO, Jeff Bezos, noted in the company’s press release about the career fair how proud he is that Amazon has been able to create over 300,000 new jobs over the past 10 years in the United States. He also noted how proud he is to be able to open this second headquarters on the opposite end of the country and have a “hiring spree” with more than 30,000 jobs to be filled. He noted how proud he is of the training opportunities and continued learning opportunities that Amazon offers its employees that enables them to gain new skills in growing, high-demand fields such as machine learning and the development of robotics technology.
